5/25/10 Patricia A. Hawkenson’s Reflections – Cuttings

Cuttings

Cuttings

The day heats
my garden green,
overgrown to limpness,
mocking my bow
to God
who must find time
between listening
to my prayers
to rain upon my flowers.

Flowers wither
as my needs grow,
footprints hard in dusty dirt,
walking away
before the sun.

Cat

Poetry at Bedtime

A hundred and one things
compile today;
my back yields to the weight
of all of them.

Yet, my cat must be hugged.

My fingers deep,
press her close
till my breath slows
to her softening purrs.

Yet, my poem must be written
before I sleep.

Digging deep
I try to leave my mark
as blood is seeping
from her scratch on my thigh.

5/07/10 Patricia A. Hawkenson’s Reflections – Ode to Plano, Texas

Plano Texas

Ode to Plano, Texas

Ok, not technically an ode,
but an exalted emotion
from my complex gratitude
for your continual support
of my little lines.

I long to see your little penguin
on my Feedjit Live.
Mingling with countries
and foreign principalities,
you reign supreme
Plano, Texas!

It is your presence,
continual, constant,
popping in as often
as I do,
you looking for me,
I looking for you.

Plano, Texas,
If only you were my sister,
my brother, my love,
as speak your silent comments
so eloquently.

And I without little words
to thank you.
